Carlow County Council Presents Bank Holiday Streetfest: A Celebration of Art, Performance, and Community

Carlow County Council is thrilled to announce the return of Streetfest, an electrifying celebration of culture, creativity, and community spirit. Set to take place on this Friday 3rd May and Saturday 4th of May 2024, from 11:00 am to 5:30 pm, the event will transform Lower Tullow Street in Carlow into a vibrant hub of entertainment and excitement.

Streetfest is a family event focused on mesmerising circus acts, dynamic street performances, a thrilling busking competition, and the pulsating beats of Beat FM broadcasting live from the street. Streetfest promises something for everyone, with a line-up designed to delight visitors of all ages.

Monsieur Gusto, renowned for his enchanting circus acts, will be returning to Streetfest to dazzle spectators with two sensational shows each day. His performances are a blend of skill, humour, and sheer spectacle, guaranteed to leave children spellbound and adults in awe.

This weekend is the first pilot of “Lower Tullow Street: Craft Village” which will be a haven for art lovers and enthusiasts, offering a diverse array of handmade treasures including candles, soaps, paintings, nuts, cold cups, glasses, mirrors, beanies, key rings, badges, jewellery, and more.

Moreover, Streetfest is proud to support local retailers, showcasing the vibrant entrepreneurial spirit of Carlow. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore a variety of unique products and experiences offered by businesses right in their own community.

Speaking about the weekend ahead, Cllr. Andrea Dalton, Cathaoirleach of Carlow County Council said, “I’m delighted to see these activities which will enhance the Bank Holiday experience for all our residents and visitors”. The Cathaoirleach also added, “As a Council we are delighted to work with the local retail community in this pilot project and stakeholders such as County Carlow Chamber and I look forward to seeing the activities this weekend and I’d encourage everybody to attend”.

Welcoming the activities for this weekend, Cllr. Tom O’Neill said “I look forward to this and next weekend’s activities and I believe these activities create vibrant, inclusive environments where people can come together to socialise, shop, and experience the cultural richness that Carlow provides. By supporting and participating in these events, we not only invigorate our local economies but also strengthen the social fabric that binds us all”.

Speaking about the Streetfest Programme , Kieran Comerford, Head of Economic Development & Enterprise with Carlow County Council said “Bank holiday weekends in retail are not just breaks on the calendar; they are golden opportunities to turn shopping into an experience turning leisure time into sales and memories and the Streetfest Programme this weekend is all about that”. Kieran Comerford concluded by saying “we look forward to continued engagement with the business community in this pilot programme”.
