Prepare Your Business for Customs - Friday 11th October 2019

The one-day workshop has been designed by KGH Global Consulting on behalf of the Local Enterprise Office Fingal to give participants a broad overview of relevant trade and customs procedures to ensure compliance with international export and import requirements.

The workshop is suitable for anyone with no prior knowledge in trade and customs procedures as well as those who are looking to review their prior knowledge, especially in the context of the UK leaving the European Union.

The day is organised into 4 sessions, each lasting 90 minutes with appropriate time for breaks, networking as well as questions and answers. Significant elements of the workshop are interactive and will require participants to actively take part in exercises. The aim is to impart practical knowledge in a fun and engaging way.

The four sessions will cover the following:

Session 1:

  • Welcome and introduction
  • An overview of The benefits of trade
  • The import and export journey
  • Customs and Trade Policy
  • The Customs ABC”: Tariff classification, origin and valuation
  • Q&As

Session 2

  • Customs compliance, the basics
  • Applying for an EORI in Ireland
  • Making a customs import and export declaration
  • Customs compliance systems in Ireland
  • Tips and tricks, including working with agents
  • What a good relationship with your freight forwarder might look like; and holding the freight Q&As

Session 3

  • Special Customs Arrangements (e.g. bonded warehousing, End-sue relief, Inward and Outward Processing Relief)
  • Simplified Customs Procedures, including inland clearance and deferred duty payment
  • The Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) with review of its benefits and costs
  • Discussion

Session 4:

  • The UK land bridge via England and Wales or Northern Ireland, including the principles of domestic, community and international transit.
  • Special arrangements for shipping cargo by sea on non-community registered vessels (e.g. ships between Ireland and the continent with ports of call in the UK)
  • Any Special Arrangements that might come into play within the context of the UK leaving the European Union
