Age Friendly Ireland was established in 2014 in pursuit of a vision that ‘’every county in Ireland will be a great place in which to grow old.’’ The initiative is being run across County Carlow in response to the ever changing population of Ireland. County Carlow is seeing an increase in older people and fewer younger people.

The Age Friendly Business Recognition Programme is designed to highlight businesses that are currently practicing age friendly services. A total of 16 businesses from all around Carlow received an Age Friendly Business Customer Charter; which makes it easier for customers to identify age friendly businesses.

The Age Friendly Restaurant Guide was also launched at this event. The Restaurant Guide aims to identify the various age friendly restaurants, and the amenities they offer, which are available from all around Carlow. The guide will enable older customers to see the facilities and services that restaurants in County Carlow are providing in an age friendly way.

Speaking at the event Enterprise Executive, Local Enterprise Office, John Mulcahy said “This is an amazing initiative which highlights businesses from all around County Carlow and the age friendly services that they provide. The Recognition Programme and the Restaurant Guide shows that Carlow supports age friendly businesses and also encourages older customers to come to the County.”
