Council extends opportunity to have your say on “My Carlow”

Carlow County Council has today (25th May 2018) announced an extension until 7th June 2018 for people to share their views on the future of Carlow Town Centre.

My Carlow launched recently is a vision for a renewed Town Centre. The key elements proposed for the first phase of the plan is the redevelopment of Upper Tullow Street. Future stages proposed include:

  • The creation of a new central plaza in Potato Market with attractive architectural features, seating areas and a space for events to attract both locals and tourists.
  • New pedestrian access to the town from the Fairgreen Shopping Centre.
  • Upgrades of all street finishes including footpaths.
  • New street furniture including public lighting, seating and bins

The proposed plan will also involve a revised traffic flow to facilitate the development of the expanded public spaces.   The new traffic scheme will still provide easy access to the 3000 plus car parking spaces that are all within approximately 5 minutes walking distance or less of the town centre.

Speaking about the process Kathleen Holohan , Chief Executive of Carlow County Council said “there has been significant discussion in respect of the proposed vision and we look forward to reviewing the submissions on this plan ” , Holohan continued to say “these views will guide the executive and councillors as they develop the statutory plan which will be developed over the summer months as the template for delivery of the vision that is “My Carlow”” , Holohan concluded by saying “nothing is more important in the delivery of this plan in that it has broad community and business support and that we work in partnership to regenerate Carlow Town as a place to experience live , work , play and learn”.

Copies of the plan and information on how to take part in the consultation process can be found at and are on display in Visual, County Buildings & the Shaw Room.
