Council welcomes €654,000 confidence boost in South Carlow Tourism Product with Rural Regeneration Application

€2.9m euros investment in Rural Carlow since 2016

Carlow County Council welcomed the announcement by Minister Ring today (23rd November 2018) of €654,000 to a South Carlow Project. A sum of €654,820 has been allocated for the project which will link the Borris Railway Viaduct to amenities in Borris town, will improve access and will re-surface the viaduct for use as a walk and cycleway.

The Rural Regeneration and Development Fund aims to rejuvenate smaller towns, villages and rural areas, generate job opportunities in rural areas, and help communities to improve their quality of life.

Minister for Rural and Community Development, Michael Ring TD, said: “I am looking forward to seeing the difference this funding will make on the ground throughout rural Ireland.  I believe that this Fund will continue to achieve even more for rural renewal over its lifetime through a pipeline of ambitious projects. Today’s announcement is just the start and I will make further announcements of successful projects early in 2019.”

Speaking about the announcement Kathleen Holohan ,Chief Executive of Carlow County Council said “we are delighted with today’s announcement which brings the total investment achieved by Carlow County Council in partnership with communities to €2.9 million euros since the establishment of the Town & Village Scheme & Rural Regeneration Scheme”, Holohan continued to say “we look forward to seeing the benefits of these investments for rural communities into the future”.

Welcoming the announcement , Cathaoirleach of Carlow County Council , Cllr. Brian O’Donoghue said “this investment is welcome news for rural communities and testament to the sense of partnership that is effectively happening in rural communities to bring projects to the next stage.”
