County Carlow’s – Family Festive Retail Fiesta

The Mayor of Carlow, John Cassin has called on the people of Carlow to Shop Local in the final run up to Christmas Day on 25th December 2015. Commenting on same Cllr Cassin said “we are encouraging people to visit Carlow’s Towns and Villages over the festive period and look around at what our County has to offer”. Cassin continued to say that “Carlow Retailers apart from a positive customer experience from the many people staff employed in the sector have a significant, unique range of products and services to suit any budget for the festive season”.

Cllr Cassin commented that Carlow County Council has been working in partnership with Carlow Chamber, Carlow Tourism & Carlow Regional Youth Services to provide a coordinated Christmas in Carlow Programme for all. Speaking about the programme Yvonne Jones, Chairperson of the Christmas in Carlow Committee said “the coordinated approach led by Carlow Chamber to Christmas in Carlow has set the foundations for the development of a significant message that shopping locally does have a significant impact to the Local Economy”.

Speaking about the Local Retail Sector, Kieran Comerford – Head of Enterprise with Carlow County Council’s Local Enterprise Office said “that a recent report shows that householders are set to spend €543m on food this festive season , which is up €34m from last year” , Comerford noted that “Half of consumers will spend more than €150 on festive food this Christmas with the majority still preferring to buy all their food in a shop rather than online which means supporting Local this season is essential for the development of our Retail Sector”.
