IRISH FLUID CONTROLS WINS TOP PRIZE AT COUNTY FINAL OF NATIONAL ENTERPRISE AWARDS

A chemical feed equipment business from Carlow Town is this year’s winner of the County Carlow National Enterprise Award for 2020 the Local Enterprise Office in Carlow County Council has announced. 

Irish Fluid Controls (Chemfeed) Ltd took the top prize of €1,500 and will now represent Local Enterprise Office (Carlow) at the 22nd National Enterprise Awards in the Mansion House in Dublin next May. 

Irish Fluid Controls (Chemfeed) Ltd. provide specialized chemical feed equipment to industry. The company manufactures turnkey chemical dosing systems. IFC has also recently developed a further division to complement its core manufacturing solution as it has signed a sole distributor agreement with the global supplier of water treatment chemicals and service, Suez. 

Irish Fluid Controls (Chemfeed) Ltd will now be competing against 30 other finalists from every local authority area for a share of the €40,000 prize fund as national judging gets underway in April.  Categories this year include ‘Best Export Business,’ ‘Future Focus’ and ‘Innovation,’ in addition to eight regional awards.

The County Carlow Enterprise Awards is part of a very successful Local Enterprise Week programme of events.  Speaking during Local Enterprise Week Kieran Comerford, Head of Enterprise  with Local Enterprise Office with Carlow County Council said: “For the last two decades, the National Enterprise Awards have celebrated homegrown success stories from every corner of Ireland, putting their achievements into the national spotlight. And at the 2020 National Enterprise Awards, we are delighted to be represented by Irish Fluid Controls (Chemfeed) Ltd, yet another homegrown success story. The judges were particularly impressed by  their business strategy and we wish them continued success with their company expansion plans.”

Five other local businesses were also shortlisted this year, and they were Carlow Coatings Ltd , Equinox Education Services (EES) Ltd , Murphy Engineering and Mobile Welding Ltd and Ballyshane Irish Wood Design.

Category Winners for 2020 were awarded for Future Vision to Carlow Coatings Ltd , Investing in People Murphy Engineering and Mobile Welding Ltd and cathaoirleach’s Award for Contribution to the Local Economy to Equinox Education Services (EES) Ltd

Presentation party for the awards was Cllr. John Pender , Cathaoirleach of Carlow County Council , Kathleen Holohan , Chief Executive of Carlow County Council , Pauline Hoctor , Senior Enterprise Development Officer and Pat Amond , Owner Manager or Carlow Toolmaking Services.

Guest speaker at the event was 2019 County Carlow Finalist , Pat Almond who spoke about his journey to starting your own business.

Speaking about the awards , Kathleen Holohan , Chief Executive with Carlow County Council said “This is a great annual event for County Carlow and I’m always amazed by our stories of entrepreneurial achievement in the County and I commend each and every company for putting themselves forward for these awards and also for supporting employment in the County” , Holohan continued to say “I believe one of the things that makes County Carlow great is our industrial and entrepreneurial innovation DNA and we in Carlow County Council are committed to support the business community in partnership with Enterprise Ireland and the other enterprise agencies”. 

Local Enterprise Week is organised every year by the Local Enterprise Offices and supported by Enterprise Ireland, local authorities and the Government of Ireland.

Ballyshane Irish Wood Design Clonmore, Hacketstown, Carlow 

Ballyshane is a multi-award winning company that creates luxury serving boards using only sustainable Irish hardwoods that are ethically sourced and traceable. The boards are made from mostly beech timber for its beautiful grain. Each board comes with a traceability tag which tells the customer which County in Ireland the tree came from and what species of wood it is made from.
