The Search is on for County Carlow’s Best Student Entrepreneurs

Today (13th September 2018) , Carlow County Council’s – Local Enterprise Office is putting out the call to transition year students from across the county to enter this year’s Student Enterprise Programme. The Student Enterprise Programme is Ireland’s largest Student Enterprise Programme and support is provided by the Local Enterprise Office to participating schools to make sure their students have the knowledge to develop Micro Enterprises which bring business into the class room and allows them to compete for a place in the Student Enterprise Awards National Final 2019.

Launching the Programme, Cathaoirleach of Carlow County Council, Cllr. Brian O’Donoghue said “supporting the next generation of entrepreneurs is a significant part of our work in the Council’s Local Enterprise Office and we are delighted to once again be working with the schools across the County which gives us access to one of our greatest assets in the county our innovative young people”, O’Donoghue continued to say “supporting the generation of employment in local communities is at the heart of all our work and by supporting young people at an early age we hope that it plants the seed which will in turn result in further employment and economic opportunities in our rural Towns & Villages”.  

Speaking about the awards, Kathleen Holohan , Chief Executive of Carlow County Council said “The main objective of the awards is to give students practical experience of running a business. In developing their businesses students will face many challenges, from creating initial funds, finding the right business idea, working with a team, and marketing and selling their products”, Holohan continued to say “in our delivery of the programme we hope that this experience of taking part in a real business challenge will encourage more students to consider entrepreneurship as a career in the future”, Holohan concluded by saying  “the students learn really practical life skills in this process like sales, marketing and presentation skills and we look forward to seeing the fantastic ideas on display as part of the County Final”
