Three quarter of a million euro investment secured for Rural Communities in County Carlow

Nine projects selected for competitive funding scheme for Rural Communities.

Carlow County Council today (5th October 2018) welcomed the announcement by Minister Ring of an allocation of €786,118 under the National Town & Village Renewal Scheme. Nine communities across the County were selected for a variety of tourism , amenity , enterprise and community development projects which have been designed in consultation with community and business champions across the County with the support of the Council Executive and partners.

Welcoming the announcement , Cathaoirleach of Carlow County Council  Cllr. Brian O’Donoghue said ,”Today’s announcement gives a real boost to communities in towns and villages across County Carlow and shows that the partnership approach adopted by Carlow County Council in respect of this scheme is helping achieve investment for the County” , O’Donoghue continued to say “Rural Communities in County have great community and business champions and we are delighted of the partnership working which has resulted in today’s investment”. O’Donoghue conclude by saying “I would encourage all towns and villages across Carlow who have not yet applied for this scheme to give it serious consideration, just as these successful projects have shown, a community could be awarded a life altering amount of funding for many varying projects”

Announcing the funding, Minister Ring said: “Over 220 rural towns and villages are getting really positive news today. The Town and Village Renewal Scheme is an important part of the Government’s work to rejuvenate rural Ireland and is having a significant impact on towns and villages across the country.

“The benefit of previous funding under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme is now being felt countrywide and I am delighted to be able to allocate a further €21.2 million for projects in 224 towns and villages right across rural Ireland.  Almost €53 million has been approved for more than 670 projects across the country under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme since it was introduced in the second half of 2016.

“As well as supporting initiatives which support enterprise and job creation, the scheme will also support improvements to public amenities in town and village centres, to help make them more attractive places in which to live, work and visit”.

Commenting on the announcement , Chief Executive of Carlow County Council , Kathleen Holohan said “ we are delighted with todays result which means Carlow County Council has been awarded €2.3 million in government grants since the establishment of the Redz & Town and Village schemes in late 2016 which will result in  direct cash investment of €2.8 million in our Rural Towns & Villages” , Holohan continued to say “Carlow County Council are committed to the securing of investment for County Carlow to create and  enhance the best possible environment for people to live , work , visit , learn and play” Speaking about the operation of the scheme , Holohan said “we are committed to working with our partners and we are delighted this year to have worked with Carlow Tourism , Visual , IT Carlow and local community and business groups on this years proposals” , Holohan concluded by saying “we look forward to working with the communities to deliver these projects over the coming months in the delivery of these unique projects”
