IBYE - Ireland's Best Young Entrepreneur 2016
Cavan’s Best Young Entrepreneurs Announced, December 15th 2016
Cavan’s best young entrepreneurs were announced at the County Final of Ireland’s Best Young Entrepreneur (IBYE) 2016 competition, which took place at a lunchtime awards ceremony in the Hotel Kilmore, Cavan on Thursday December 15th 2016.
IBYE, which has a €2 million investment fund, is run by all 31 Local Enterprise Offices (LEOs) and is supported by the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation and Enterprise Ireland.
The overall Young Entrepreneur of The Year 2016 in County Cavan was named by Local Enterprise Office Cavan as Daria Sadkina from Stop and Stare Design Co. Ltd. based in Bailieborough, Co. Cavan.
Daria also won the category for Best Start Up Business and an investment fund from LEO Cavan worth €15,000.
The other main category winners on the day were Jonathan Scott of Big Hand Brewing Company in Cavan, producer of Scotts Irish Cider, in the Best Established Business category.
Kellie Cunniffe, from Lisdfuff, Virginia who won the Best New Idea category with her new idea “Remember Me”.
The top prize in the Best Established Business category was €15,000 and in the Best New Idea category the top prize was €7,000. All three category winners went forward to represent County Cavan at one of eight IBYE Regional Finals, which took place during January 2017.
Meanwhile, the category runners-up also shared an investment of €13,000 between their three businesses. They were:
Danny Barr from Cinnte Technologies in the Best Established Business category;
Koen Busschots from Blade Tech Services Ltd. in the Best Start Up Business category
Michael Hatton with “Pledge It Today” in the Best New Idea category.
Marcella Rudden, Acting Head of Enterprise with Local Enterprise Office Cavan said: “We started the search to find Ireland’s best young entrepreneur in August and the competition received a record-breaking number of entries this year, with 1,800 young entrepreneurs applying nationally. After a very successful IBYE bootcamp and County Final, the future is bright for both youth entrepreneurship and job creation in the region.”

In addition to their funding awards, all of our winners and runners-up were presented with beautiful hand-crafted pens by local start-up business Richard Daly of Irish Pens, Ballinagh and innovative plaques by local established business Neil Doherty of Mel's Signs, Cavan.
