Mary Enright - ME

Mary Enright

Based in the heart of picturesque Kinsale is the young, vibrant and highly skilled Master Goldsmith, Mary Enright. Mary grew up in a family of designer makers, from her carpenter father to her grandmothers’ dressmaking skills Mary was inspired to carry on this family tradition, the medium she chooses to work with being precious metal.

“I got my first jewellery making set from the lovely Mr. Santa Claus when I was 11, I loved it and everyone was adorned with my latest creations - including my brother who was less than impressed when he had to wear a lovely flower pendant on Christmas Day”.

Mary studied sculpture in Denver, Colorado and it was here that she found her passion for working with metal. Of her first experience of a workshop Mary says, “I felt completely at home, I loved the smell of the workshop, the sound of hammering and filing, the heat from the torches, I was hooked”. Mary applied for a coveted place on the Jewellery & Goldsmith Skills course with the Design and Crafts Council of Ireland and given a one in eighty chance of gaining one of the twelve places the odds turned out to be in her favour. “In Kilkenny I completely immersed myself in my craft and perfecting my skills, I was fortunate to get a full time job when I graduated at one of the best workshops in the country and there I gained not only technical experience but also business knowledge and valuable contacts within the jewellery trade both in Ireland and Europe”.

Mary established her own branded jewellery business, ME, in Kinsale in 2011 and her open workshop gives people the rare opportunity to see a master craftsperson at work while also serving as a showcase for Mary’s unique designs. Mary sells her jewellery from her shop in Kinsale where she has a broad range of jewellery from silver bracelets to engagement rings and she also sells from her online shop

Mary’s creative vision and ability combined with her passion for her work and attention to customer care means her exciting establishment in the medieval town of Kinsale is already quite a hit and recent TV appearances on Dragons Den and Nationwide have highlighted Mary’s business profile and design skills on a more national level. Her shop in Kinsale has also been nominated as part of The Irish Times Best Gift and Design Shops and ME Jewellery has graced the pages of glossy magazines next to top international designers and design houses. We’re sure the future is bright for this Kinsale gem.
