Maeve O’Malley, Meltdown - Winner of 2019 Entrepreneur of the Year Award

I started my entrepreneural career as soon as I finished studying Biochemistry in NUIG in 2009.

After many failed attempts at starting a business over 10 years, in 2018 I started my first successful venture. A pop up cafe specialising in toasties called Meltdown.

Meltdown has evolved from a temporary pop up, to a hole in the wall cafe, to a takeaway and now this Friday I will be opening up a 40 seater cafe/restaurant on Montague Street. Meltdown by Day, Winedown by Night. I have also a product which is available in many stores around Ireland - Meltdown Hot Stuff

The last few months have been unprecedented and very difficult... I spent the first few weeks stressing out and focusing on what everyone else was doing. After a few weeks I felt awful and I was so stressed. I decided to outsource my social media and reduce the amount of time I spent reading the news and social media. I instead focused on what was right in front of me and it really paid off for me.
