The Family Business Conference - morning conference with a keynote address from Dr Habbershon and panel discusssions.

The DCU Centre for Family Business is currently hosting a series of workshops for family firms. Topics covered to date reflect the pressing issues facing family business leaders including Succession Planning and Family & Business Governance Structures. On Tuesday 24th March, Centre for Family business will host a 'Professionalising Your Family Business' conference in Crowne Plaza, Santry. The morning conference will consist of a keynote address from Dr. Timothy Habbershon and an expert panel discussion.
Family Business owners, managers and next generation representatives, family business advisors and anyone with general interest in the family business nationally and internationally are all welcome to attend. This event is supported by our partners AIB, PwC and William Fry.

Dr Timothy Habbershon

Dr Timothy Habbershon is the Managing Director at Fidelity Investments, the advisor to Johnson Family and the founding director of Institute for Family Enterprising based in Babson College, Massachusetts, USA. Other speakers will be confirmed before the event.Prof. Habbershon was also assistant professor of Entrepreneurship, holding the President's Term Chair in Family Enterprising. While at Babson, he developed an emphasis on family-based entrepreneurship called Transgenerational Entrepreneurship.

Prof. Habbershon is also the founding director of family business programs in the Snider Entrepreneurship Center at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and in the Freeman Institute for Rural Entrepreneurship in the School of Business at the University of South Dakota. He has conducted Executive Education programs to family ownership and management teams on entrepreneurial strategy and relationship issues through universities worldwide.
Prof. Habbershon has written a number of academic articles, he has a regular column – "Family Business Inc." – in BusinessWeek's Small Biz magazine, and has been cited in The Financial Times, Newsweek, and The New York Times

Bobby Kerr

Entrepreneur, investor and public speaker, Bobby Kerr is chairman of coffee franchise, Insomnia. Mr Kerr has extensive experience in the catering industry.
He was former Managing director of Bewleys Oriental Café, Bewleys Franchising and Bewleys Bakery. In 1999, he set up PERK Coffee Shops which was sold to Insomnia in 2003.
Mr Kerr comes from a family business background. His father set up Newpark Hotel, Kilkenny in 1966. When his father died, Bobby became chairman of the hotel and actively involved in the business. In 2008, he spearheaded the sale of the business when the hotel was sold for €23 million.
Mr Kerr is also a broadcaster and has featured as an investor in four series of Dragon's Den, and most recently, as a radio presenter on Newstalk.
