Female entrepreneurs from across the West are #MakingItHappen in 2019, and Local Enterprise Office Galway is delighted to present a dynamic and engaging event on behalf of Galway, Mayo and Roscommon to celebrate National Women’s Enterprise Day. To mark the occasion, a special event will be held in Galway city’s historic Hotel Meyrick on the 17th of October.

With MC Loretta Ni Ghabhain (Lorg Media), together with a fantastic line-up of excellent speakers sharing their experiences, challenges and solutions for the world of business today, this dynamic event is guaranteed to engage, empower and inspire businesswomen and aspiring entrepreneurs. Keynote speaker on the day will be ‘Tweeting Goddess’ Samantha Kelly whose emotive back-story and subsequent business success is sure to inspire.

Award-winning Twitter expert, social media strategist, speaker, author and founder of the Women’s Inspire Network Sam Kelly’s motto is: “There’s a lot of noise out there. It’s all about standing out from the rest.” Having built a loyal following of over 43,000 people by engaging and interacting on Twitter as her own campaign manager, Sam has a deep knowledge and understanding of how to harness the power of social media and make it happen for your business. Sam says: ‘I started from scratch and went from kitchen table business to digital influencer, all thanks to the magic of Twitter.’

She’ll be joined on the day by ambassadors for each of the Local Enterprise Offices in Galway Mayo and Roscommon, who will participate in a lively panel discussion on how they are Making It Happen for their businesses. The panel discussion will take place after a two-course lunch.

Representing LEO Galway is Tympany Medical’s co-founder Elizabeth McGloughlin, who will be fresh from the national finals of the Ireland’s Best Young Entrepreneur competition. Elizabeth’s company is designing and developing a novel combined access and visualisation device which will enable ear surgeons to ‘see around the corners’ of the ear canal. This will allow surgeons to perform trans-canal ear surgery with a wide endoscopic view of the surgical site, thereby, avoiding unnecessary invasive surgery.

Representing LEO Mayo is Tracy Sweeney, Creative Director at Nigel O’Reilly Goldsmiths in Castlebar. Nigel O’Reilly Goldsmiths manufacture high-end jewellery for Irish and UK jewellery houses, based on Bond St. and Hatton Garden, London, including Fabergé, Stephen Webster & Boodles. Celebrities such as Saoirse Ronan have graced the red carpet of the Oscars, wearing pieces they have made for these UK jewellery houses.

LEO Roscommon’s ambassador is Carmel Gavin, owner of the Curtain Centre in Roscommon town. The business opened its doors in 1998, and currently employs four people. Carmel works closely with her sister, who runs the office allowing Carmel to focus on customer service and business development.

Following the panel discussion, attendees will be invited to network – and will also have an opportunity to avail of one-to-one sessions with our expert mentors in areas such as marketing/PR, Brexit strategy, and business planning.

Coordinator of Galway’s National Women’s Enterprise Day celebrations is LEO Galway’s Valerie Kelly. She says: ‘LEO Galway is excited to host this energetic, exciting and unmissable afternoon for female entrepreneurs across Galway, Mayo and Roscommon. Our theme for the event is ‘Making It Happen,’ and the programme features uplifting and informative talks from some of the West’s brightest business minds. The mentoring and networking after lunch also provides a great opportunity for businesswomen in the region to get together and share their personal stories.’
