Galways Young Entrepreneur Award Winners Announced

The Galway winners of Ireland’s Best Young Entrepreneur (IBYE) were announced by Breda Fox, CEO of Local Enterprise Office Galway yesterday evening at an event in the Portershed.

Winners were chosen from over one hundred entries in 3 categories; Best New Idea; Best Start Up Business and Best Established Business. Breda Fox spoke about this years entries. ‘This was an exciting and highly competitive event for Galway’s aspiring and existing entrepreneurs, with finalists spanning various industries and experience levels. The standard of entries was exceptionally high. We encourage all participants to continue to avail of the supports offered by LEO Galway as they continue in their entrepreneurial endeavours’.

The ‘Best New Idea’ winner was Brendan Boland, Loci Orthopaedics and Runner Up was Richard McCurry, Newby Chinese. Best Start Up Business winner was Padraic O’Griallis of Micil Poitin, runner up was Rory McCormack of Handsome Burger. Best Established Business winner was Micheal Dwyer of Clean Cut Meals, runner up was Jason McGarry of Platinum and Diamond Nutrition. Of the 3 category winners, the overall title of ‘Best Young Entrepreneur’ went to Brendan Boland of Loci Orthopaedics.  

Joining Breda on the judging panel were Dave Hickey, The Tribune Group, Michael Fitzgerald, One Page CRM and Dermot Nolan, Headspace. Prizes were handcrafted in Galway by Ambrose O’Halloran with an original piece by Turnstone Ceramics presented to Brendan Boland.

Winners were awarded a total prize fund of 50K and will now advance to the regional finals which will be held in the Clayton Hotel on 17th of January, 2018. The IBYE national final will be held at Google HQ on 4th of March. Finalists also benefit from intensive business boot camps and 1:1 mentoring programmes provided by LEO Galway.
