Clarinbridge company gearing up to compete for 2019 National Enterprise Award

Clarinbridge-based food prep company Clean Cut Meals will face competition from small businesses from across Ireland at the 21st annual National Enterprise Awards in May. The firm, set up in 2015 by Micheal Dyer and Conor McCallion has been selected as the overall winner in the Galway city and county stage of the nationwide competition. The business started in a home kitchen, with orders from friends and family. Within six months, after a lot of market research and with the help of a graduate entrepreneurship programme, Micheal and Conor took a lease on their own commercial kitchen, launched a website and booked their first pre-orders – they now ship to customers all over Ireland.

The winner of the Best Start Up title in Galway is Alison Conneely’s contemporary Irish womenswear brand which delivers luxury ready-to-wear collections to the global market

with a bespoke service available in Ireland and the UK. The Clifden-based company is currently selling in the top fashion boutiques in the country, and launched in the United States in November last year.

The NEAs take place every year to highlight the successes of small businesses around the country. According to a survey from the Local Enterprise Offices, previous winners now employ over 800 people and generate over €130 million in turnover, €58 million of which is generated from exports to 52 countries.  Since winning, 11 of the companies have scaled-up their businesses to become Enterprise Ireland clients.

Head of Enterprise with Local Enterprise Office Galway, Breda Fox, says:  ‘The National Enterprise awards is our opportunity to celebrate the clients, to acknowledge the risks they’ve taken and the achievements they’ve made on a local, regional and national stage. All 31 finalists at the event have the opportunity to win further prizes and the accolade of Regional and National Category Enterprise Awards. Past winners of the awards have created over 800 jobs, export to over 50 countries and contribute significantly to their local economy – they deserve to be celebrated.’

The 2019 National Enterprise Awards take place on May 29th at the Round Room at Dublin’s Mansion House.
