LEO Galway to be represented at National Womens Enterprise Day event


Starting a business or already running your own business?  

Celebrate National Womens' Enterprise Day on Thursday, October 18th at one of sixteen events around the country, organised by the Local Enterprise Offices to recognise Ireland’s female entrepreneurs.

The West Region:  Roscommon/Galway/Mayo Event will host a small Event in Kilronan Castle, Ballyfarnon, Boyle, Co. Roscommon, on Thursday, 18th October from 3.30pm – 8pm.  This year’s West Region Ambassador is: Michelle Daly, Deputy Managing Director, P & G Cards, Athleague, Co. Roscommon.  Michelle will address the gathering, as will 2 business women from Galway & Mayo. There will also be a panel discussion, some spot prizes, culminating in a buffet dinner.

Galway's Local Enterprise Office will be represented by Magaly Murray.

Magaly Murray is the co-founder of Gran Grans Foods, a company dedicated to the production of Handcrafted Fine Foods Made in Galway.

Magaly, originally from Peru, has a bachelor’s Degree in Translation and Interpretation in English, French and Spanish and has accomplished certification on Administration and Marketing Studies. She is also an enthusiastic gardener and vegetable grower. More importantly, she was raised in an Entrepreneurial family.

In 2005, together with her Husband Nigel Murray, a renowned chef, came back to Ireland from Peru, where they owned several businesses, including the First Irish Pub in the Peruvian capital, Lima, along with other restaurants and even got involved in the Music Industry! When in Ireland, they bought a house in the outskirts of Loughrea, in Kilchreest at the foothills of the Slieve Aughty Mountains.

In 2006, Nigel began as Executive Chef in the Ardilaun hotel while Magaly stayed at home looking after their 3 children. She soon realised there was a gap in the market of the children entertainment sector and founded “Party Friends”, a small business dedicated to children parties and Corporate events. Later, they opened together a Recruitment Agency exclusively for Chefs.

The recession of 2008 had a significant impact in this sector and regrettably they had to close this business. Nigel then, was offered the position of Executive Chef at the Glenlo Abbey Hotel, while Magaly worked in the HR department at their local Supervalu  

In 2014, they decided to venture in the Retail Sector, Gran Grans Foods was founded, specializing in a Gluten Free range of creative condiments varying from dressings to chutneys, traditional meat sauces to exotic flavours dips.

Since then, Magaly’s enthusiasm, drive, creativity and Administration skills along with Nigel, an avid gourmet with an extensive knowledge of the food industry, have been going from strength to strength.

Their ethos: consistent flavoursome products using local seasonal ingredients, great customer service and constant research in costumers needs and trends.

In 2018, Grans Grans Foods is distributed to over 400 shops throughout the country, servicing the Craft Butchers Association, Garden Centres, Independent Fine Food Stores and Supermarkets.
