Local Enterprise Office Galway launches local programme for National Women’s Enterprise Day

Seven events taking place around the country on Wednesday, October 19th to highlight success stories and to encourage more women to access enterprise supports

The Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Ms. Mary Mitchell O’ Connor T.D. has launched the full programme of events to mark the 10th annual National Women’s Enterprise Day, which is being organised by the Local Enterprise Offices (LEO) on Wednesday, October 19th 2016.

Local Enterprise Office Galway is organising the Western region event in the g hotel to celebrate the success stories of Irish female entrepreneurs and to encourage more women across the region to access enterprise supports for starting or growing a business. Special guests at the regional event include Keynote speaker and Confidence coach Natasha Fennell (Stillwater Communications), Award winning luxury leather accessories designer Úna Burke and Karen Geraghty of Snapchat and Yankee Doodle Paddy fame. Expert panel discussions include How to Make Social Media Rock for you and the Road to Success.  With all panel discussion aptly named after powerful women from the west of Ireland, including Gráinne Mhaol Panel, Countess Markievicz and Queen Maeve.

Loretta Ní Ghabháin founder and Director of Lorg Media will host the Western Region event and bring her Award winning social media and broadcasting experience to bear on the occasion. All 31 Local Enterprise Offices are behind the initiative and they have enlisted the help of established entrepreneurs to act as Regional Ambassadors, to share their success stories at events that day and Aisling Hanley of Keenwah Quinoa and Aisling’s Bakery is the Ambassador for the West Region event.

Launching the Western region programme of events, Head of Enterprise, Local Enterprise Office Galway, Breda Fox, said:

“The theme for October 19th is to empower, inspire and add value to the women attending the event with exciting speakers, panellists and successful women telling their stories. We will also have mentoring for attendees who wish for one to one to one support and a presentation from the Galway 2020 team to close the day"

Through financial assistance, microfinance loans, mentoring, training and networking, the Local Enterprise Offices supported 1,000 more female-run enterprises last year, compared with 2014. There is a wide range of enterprise supports on offer and the LEO Galway is encouraging aspiring entrepreneurs and existing business owners to find out about those supports at the regional event on National Women’s Enterprise Day. Ms Fox added

“The LEO Galway supports women to start innovative businesses with the potential to export and employ more people. National Women’s Enterprise Day aims to continue to support and increase the number of new and existing women in business in Galway, Mayo and Roscommon.”

Enterprise Ireland is also supporting National Women’s Enterprise Day 2016 and its CEO, Julie Sinnamon, said:

“One in five high potential start-up companies supported by Enterprise Ireland is female-led — just five years ago, that figure was less than one in ten companies"
