Mayor to launch Creative Makers Pop-Up Shop offering best of the west

Looking for a unique Christmas gift? Mayor of Galway to launch Creative Makers Pop-Up Shop offering the best of the west

Buying Christmas presents for family and friends can be a stressful experience – but what better gift than a locally produced, handcrafted labour of love?

The hugely successful Creative Makers Galway Pop-Up Shop is once again returning to the Cornstore at Middle Street and will be officially launched by Mayor of Galway Mike Cubbard on Friday afternoon at 2. (December 6th)

Jewellery, soaps, scarves, paintings, woodcraft, glassworks, toys, skincare, candles, art prints and ceramics are just some of the handcrafted products on offer from the finest artisan producers across Galway.

Visitors will not only have the chance to purchase high quality, handmade local products to suit every taste – but also meet some of the craft makers behind them, and learn more about the skill, labour and love that goes into every item on display.

Mannifacture – Hand Crafted Soft Toys

At Mannifacture, the ethos is simple - no kid is the same, therefore none of the unique hand-created Teddys on offer are the same either! These stuffed creations are handmade using carefully chosen materials and colours, which makes them the perfect tailored companion for all the individual children out there.

Owner Birte Offick says being handmade gives each teddy their own unique personality - and she loves to see them finding good homes and going on adventures with the children as they grow up! Birte sewed the first teddy for her niece in 2014, little suspecting her unique hand-stitched soft toys would shortly be in such huge demand.

The Soap Room – Natural Skincare Products

The Soap Room has a focus on creating a wide range of natural and organic skincare products that are made in small batches using only the finest ingredients.

Owner Simona Ridolfi says healthy living has always been a big part of her life. As a child, she was captivated by the smells and colours of fresh, local produce when shopping with her grandmother. Like most Italian families, she says, her mother also believed that wholesome, healthy produce was the key to a healthy life!

Niamh Daniels Scarves – High Quality, Handmade Silk Scarves

Niamh Daniels is an award-winning designer who has worked in the fashion industry in New York and London. She’s constantly inspired by the ever-changing landscape of the West of Ireland – the fauna, flora and dramatic skies.

What better gift in this temperamental climate than a striking, hand-crafted scarf made using the finest fabrics and finished with meticulous detail? Niamh’s signature style is prints with a fine art approach, combining a strong use of colour with her own drawing, painting and photography.

Ambrose and Bríd – Woodturning

Ambrose and Bríd O’ Halloran have operated a woodturning business for the past 20 years and believe there is a clear distinction between simply turning wood, and being a passionate woodturner.

Falling firmly in the latter category, their catalogue ranges from hand-crafted household items including vases and lamps, to intricate jewellery and once-off items such as plaques, bowls and platters. Despite their extensive experience, Ambrose and Bríd describe themselves as continued students – as they constantly seek to add to their years of expert knowledge in the woodturning field.
