The UK left the EU on 31 January 2020 and the current transition period will end on 31 December 2020, whereby the UK will formally exit the EU's customs union and single market. While trade talks continue between the UK and EU to determine the conditions of the future trading relationships, all businesses need to take proactive steps now to prepare for when the UK becomes a third-country and will operate within a new regulatory regime.
Numerous changes are expected in the trading relationship between Ireland and the UK such as customs procedures, logistical delays, sanitary and phytosanitary checks, diverging standards/regulations etc. Therefore, goods and services bought from, or sold to, the UK following 1 January 2021, will require additional planning and preparation so as to minimise the impact of disruption to your business.
