Building a Craft and Design Enterprise-Kildare

Kildare Local Enterprise Office in association with the Irish Crafts Council of Ireland are looking for ambitious Craft and Design based enterprises that want to inject new ideas and approaches to product development into their practice. Boost your product into the market through a series of design led workshops.

Building a Craft and Design Enterprise Programme

Over the course of seven months you will undertake:

  • Research mission to London trade show & retail visits.
  • Enhance your design and product 
  • Brand your product effectively.
  • Cost and promote your product in the marketplace
  • 8 days training
  • Bespoke 1-2-1 mentoring sessions
  • Considered for a stand in the Enterprise Zone of Showcase Ireland 2019

 

WORKSHOPS TO INCLUDE:

1.  Introduction to the BCDE programme, value of Market Research, principles of marketing for the creative sector, current Design and business trends:  18th April

How marketing principles apply to a creative business. Is there a demand for what you make? Do you know your best route[s] to market? Who are your competitors? How can you keep visible? Are you up to speed with trends for Design 2018 and beyond?

2.  Product Development Part 1: 19th April

How do you approach making? Do you think design, function, form? Building on your successes. What do your customers need? How do you present your work? Production planning. Time management .

3.  My Business Structure & Organization: 9th May 

10 steps to good business practice:

4.  Costing and Pricing my design and production:  10th May

How much is your customer willing to pay? How can you get a good margin? 

5.  Escorted Research mission to a London trade show & retail visits:


This will be in September 2018 (9th -12th)
 

6.  Product Development Part 2, 1-2-1 Clinics 22nd - 24th October

The clinics are a focussed one to one session and include an audit and review of current product offerings and provide the opportunity to engage and discuss new and developing work. Each participant will have one mentoring session over the three days.

7.  Website audit and Optimization: 12th June

A critical analysis of individual websites and optimization and commercialization strategy.


8.  Branding your company and your work: 26th June

Understanding the core principles of Branding. Do you have a strong brand identity? How important is a strong brand for your business? How to manage your Brand

9.    Have you Export Potential? 4thOctober

Where are you going to sell? Online, direct retail, wholesale, internationally? Everywhere you can? What’s your strategy, have you considered design for export? How can you get into retail stores?

10. One to one mentoring in business, sales, design: 17-18th October
 

11.  A. The value of Trade fairs for design-based business:2nd November

How trade fairs can be a valuable research source for designers, a direct path to target customers and a source of inspiration.

11. B. Developing a PR campaign for your business

What tools do you need? What is your message? How to write a press release. What is media looking for?

 
Note: -The above workshops will be followed by the BCDE course completion Certificate Presentation.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT TO GAIN FROM THIS PROGRAMME?

The fee to participate is 150 euros and the programme is heavily subsidized. Date [s] are subject to slight change and venues will be confirmed before the programme starts.

As part of the application process you may be called for an interview which will be held in at the Kildare LEO Offices on 27th March.
