Winners announced at County Enterprise Awards
Small businesses from Drumshanbo and Carrick on Shannon were the big winners at this year’s County Enterprise Awards, organised by Local Enterprise Office Leitrim to celebrate Local Enterprise Week.
The top prize of €1,000 went to Sinead and Pascal Gillard of Jinny’s Bakery in Drumshanbo, who will represent the county at the annual National Enterprise Awards in Dublin this May.
Other winners at the awards ceremony, held at the Bush Hotel, Carrick on Shannon included Georgia Visnyei, Art of Coffee, Carrick on Shannon who won 2nd Prize and Giolla Liddy, Artwood, Drumshanbo who won 3rd prize.
The overall winner, Jinny’s Bakery is in the food sector and produces a range of breads and cakes.
Having now reached the final of the National Enterprise Awards in May, Jinny’s Bakery will be competing against 30 other companies from every local authority area for a share of the €40,000 prize fund across thirteen categories.
Speaking at the ceremony, Joe Lowe with Local Enterprise Office Leitrim congratulated the local entrepreneurs, saying: “Sinead and Pascal from Jinny’s Bakery is a very worthy winner of this major enterprise award, in recognition of what they have achieved here in the county. Because of their drive and determination, the company already employs 11people (full and part time)and plans to expand production and launch new products in new markets in the very near future.”
Five other local businesses were also shortlisted this year, and they were Andelise Curtains and Blinds, Carrick on Shannon, Blakes Always Organic, Drumshanbo, Fishtracker, Kilnagross, Carrick on Shannon, Global Green Sustainability, Carrick on Shannon and Planet of Sound, Leitrim Village.
Among the special guests at the ceremony were elected representatives and members of the Evaluation and Approvals Committee.
The awards were just one of the many highlights of Local Enterprise Week, which started on 6th March. All over the country, the 31 Local Enterprise Offices have been jointly running over 380 events aimed at start-ups, aspiring entrepreneurs and small businesses in their area, to mark the week.
