When and Where Does the Start Your Own Business Course Take Place?

This course is entirely online and takes place over five weeks - two evenings per week:  Mondays & Thursdays - 16th, 19th, 23rd, 26th, 30th January and 2nd, 9th & 13th February - 6:30pm to 8:30pm

Course Objectives:

  • To assist participants in assessing the viability of their business idea, and to gauge their own suitability to running their own business
  • To understand and anticipate the difficulties, strategic, financial and otherwise, in establishing and running a business
  • How to write and maintain a business plan
  • How to understand the financial issues such as raising money, managing cashflow and taxation
  • Enable participants to acquire the skills to effectively market and sell their business in an effective and efficient way

Outline Syllabus

- Self- Employment / Self-Assessment- What is Entrepreneurship?
- Starting a Business, the Legal Issues- Researching the Market
- Marketing for the Small Business- Finance, Taxation and Insurance
- Sources of Funding- Cash Flow for Business
- Bookkeeping- Sales & Sales Planning
- Preparing a Business Plan- Using IT in your Business
- Harnessing Creativity and Innovation to secure competitive advantage

The syllabus above will give participants a broad introduction to the skills and competencies needed to launch and run a successful business. Whilst some topics are obviously a requirement such as taxation, time is also allocated to building competitive advantage and using creativity to help make their business stand out.
