Local Enterprise Office Mayo launches Lower Carbon Lower Cost initiative

Local Enterprise Office (LEO) Mayo in partnership with the LEOs in Roscommon & Sligo today launched the Lower Carbon Lower Cost Initiative. This project is a collaboration between the LEOs in Mayo, Sligo & Roscommon and Sligo Institute of Technology bringing about low carbon innovation to micro-enterprises & SMEs.

Low Carbon Economy

The transition to a low carbon economy demands new strategies for maintaining competitiveness and benefiting from ‘green growth’. This is a challenge for enterprises and most specifically for those from rural areas.

The Lower Carbon Lower Cost Initiative can assist your business in lowering your carbon footprint, reduce costs and improve the environmental profile of the business in the marketplace.

Successful participants on the tailored programme will receive the following:

  • Carbon Impact assessment & profile of your business
  • Technical support to investigate the best options for lowering the carbon footprint of your business, leading to lower energy, water & waste costs
  • The chance to secure €5,000 funding for a “lower carbon intervention” project in your business

John Magee, Acting Director of Services of Mayo County Council with responsibility for Enterprise believes that

“SMEs & micro-enterprises have an urgent need to focus on increased levels of innovation to help them to become more sustainable and to increase competitiveness. The transition to a low carbon economy encompasses a focus on sustainability, driving efficiencies and embracing innovation in your business as well an opportunity for all enterprises to look at new ways of doing business. The Lower Carbon Lower Cost initiative can help steer your business on the best way to achieving those objectives”.

This initiative is one of many being rolled out by Mayo County Council in it’s bid to take a lead role in climate adaption planning, following on Minister Bruton officially launching the Climate Action Regional Office in Mayo County Council in April of this year.
