Elevate Your Business at the ISME Business Briefings in February

ISME, the Irish Small and Medium Enterprises Association, today, announced its Elevate Business Briefing Series for Spring. Aimed at owners and managers of small and medium businesses, this series of business briefings has been designed to provide a forum for SMEs around the country to gain business insights and information; stimulate new ideas; as well as offering great opportunities to network with fellow business people and grow their business. All business owners (ISME members or not) are welcome to attend their local event.

ISME Chief executive Neil McDonnell, said ‘SMEs are looking beyond the gloom of Brexit at the opportunities ahead. Despite the challenges, we’re optimistic for 2017.’

The Spring series was programmed following the results of the ISME Quarterly Bank Watch Survey in December and feedback from members; where it was clear that the issue of business finance is foremost. The results of the Quarterly Bank Watch Survey revealed that loan refusal rate for our members is at 30%; 20% of applications are awaiting decisions; and the average waiting time is eight weeks.  We have invited nine companies who provide alternative sources of finance for SMEs in Ireland. During the briefings, each company will give a short pitch about their services and products, and will be available to meet and discuss finance options with attendees.

Conall O Móráin, presenter of The Sunday Business Show on Today FM will chair the sessions and will open each session with a general overview about business in Ireland for SMEs. Each event will feature a presentation by Paula Carney-Hoffler of Hugh J Ward & Co. Solicitors, about Managing Credit Risk and Getting Paid. Getting paid on time is vital to the survival of a business; Paula’s presentation will provide a best practice approach to managing credit risk, a simple step by step guide to getting paid on time. In his presentation, Ross McCarthy, Keystone Procurement will demonstrate how SMEs can grow their business through contracts and collaboration, and offer advice when dealing with tenders to the public sector. Both of these presenters will be happy to take questions from attendees.

We will be inviting a local SME in each venue to give a short presentation about their business, discussing their experiences, insights and challenges. We will be announcing the local company presenting at each session later in January. Each of the businesses will be shortlisted for the Sean Hannick Award in 2017. This award was launched at the ISME Annual Conference in November 2016 and is in honour of Sean Hannick, one of the founders of ISME. The award is for Irish SMEs who have demonstrated the entrepreneurial attributes of courage, innovation, scalability and a willingness to learn – grounded in Ireland with an international perspective.  The 2016 winner was TransferMate, a global international payments provider and based in Kilkenny.

The Elevate Business Briefings will take place in Dundalk, Dublin City Centre, Galway, Mullingar, Cork, Limerick, Kilkenny and West Dublin during February (7th, 9th, 15th and 22nd February – full details below). The cost for members to attend is €25, and €40 for non-members. We are encouraging early bookings by offering a two for the price of one promotion until 27th January. We also want to encourage more people to attend and would invite members to bring a colleague or another business owner to the events for just €15 p.p.
