Commenting on the event, Mr John McEntegart Head of Enterprise said, “ I am delighted and impressed with all the creative companies and it is fantastic to see so many innovative and good business ideas being showcased at the Awards. The quality and standard of the projects entered here today is a testament to the hard work and commitment of the students and the teachers alike”. He continued, “One of the objectives of the Local Enterprise Office, within Monaghan County Council, is to foster and develop enterprise awareness in primary and secondary school students, and to use the experience of setting-up and running an enterprise as the primary means of learning about self-employment as a career option.”

This is the first time in Co. Monaghan that a Primary School Enterprise Development Programme encompassing 3 in- school workshops was held. In the past Monaghan LEO did run Primary school Enterprise Awareness initiatives in the form of slogan campaigns but this year it was decided to pilot a more structured development programme, one that allows students the opportunity to gain firsthand experience of what it is really like to run a business, from the initial planning stage, through financing the set-up, to selling their products or services.

During the presentation, Eilín Connolly, Business Advisor and Programme Manager stated, “We hope that the skills the students have learnt in participating in this enterprise development programme will help them in enhance skills in creativity, problem solving , team building and leadership as they pursue their chosen careers or develop their own businesses in the future. She acknowledged the strong role of the participating school teachers and principals; “We are delighted that the school principles recognise the importance of creativity, enterprise and entepreurialship by allowing Monaghan Local Enterprise Office deliver the programme in 17 schools in the county”.

Planning is now underway to roll out the programme in Spring 2019 and invitations will be issued to all Co. Monaghan Primary Schools in Autumn 2018. If you would like further details on this programme or any Monaghan LEO supports, please call Eilín Connolly 047 71818.
