Flying the Flag for Local Fashion & Design - Monaghan Women in Business Showcase

Made in Monaghan - Designer Fashion Showcase

Monaghan Local Enterprise Office (LEO) through the Monaghan Women in Business (MWiB) initiative, are hosting a fashion showcase with six female designers, to display their locally made collections. Attendees on the night will enjoy a spectacle of Monaghan-based design from Liz Christy Handwoven in Ireland (Annyalla), EM-Marie by Emma Curtis (Carrickmacross), Purple Peach by Jacinta Caraher (Ballybay), Hand Painted Silk Scarves by Louise Loughman Designs (Annyalla), Knits by Monda (Monaghan), Catherine McGregor Hand Painted Velvets and clothing to accompany items will be provided by Rant & Rave.

From bridal wear to warm knits, Annyalla to Monaghan Town; this eclectic, countywide spread of talent encourages us to consider the Who/What/Where/How/When of our purchases. Shopping sustainably and locally is transforming the way items are designed and sold; contributing positively to circular and local economies throughout the world while also helping reduce the carbon footprint of the clothes we wear and the things we use.

The Local Multiplier Effect has long been established and recognised and means that every €1 spent locally circulates approximately five times and so is worth €5 to the community. Monaghan LEO advocate sourcing and purchasing more local goods and services within our communities, so that our local businesses and jobs are sustained.

Eilin Connolly, Business Advisor at Monaghan LEO says; ‘We are delighted to welcome everyone to this showcase of local, sustainable fashion and design. The evening is a great promotional opportunity for the designers; highlighting the quality and value of locally sourced garments and designer wear. She continues; “The role of the LEO is todevelop the entrepreneurial ecosystem and support local businesses- and this showcase is a prime example of this”. Higher quality products alongside an increased access to buying them, through events such as this showcase, local markets and ‘Town Vouchers’, are shifting our focus from disposable to durable – a winner for both designer and buyer.

At €15 per person (including refreshments) this promises to be an informative and enjoyable evening out; inspiring ideas and supporting local business. Get ready for the fast-approaching Christmas period and beyond; be part of the local and sustainable movement by booking your place here.
