Further Iinitiatives To Support Jobs and Develop Entepreneurship

Monaghan Local Enterprise Office announces business support programmes and initiatives

In 2016 Local Enterprise Office (LEO) Monaghan developed an ambitious county strategy for startups, enterprise engagements and supports in order to continue to be effective first-stop-shops for enterprise information and supports.

Monaghan Chief Executive Eamon O Sullivan welcomed the initiatives that are being untaken by LEO Monaghan. He also stated that “Monaghan County Council is committed to supporting jobs within the county and this is achieved using an inter-agency approach where Monaghan County Council leverages significant resources to deliver on projects with a long-term benefit to local enterprise and employment. The supportive role of the county council is fundamental to enterprise generation and economic development at a local level. Indeed, local authority input is essential across the full spectrum of actions as outlined in the national Action Plan for Jobs and our recently launched Local Economic and Community Plan.

Head of the LEO John McEntegart complimented CE O Sullivan on his support for the Local Enterprise Office. He highlighted that that LEO Monaghan has a range of programmes and supports for the small business sector. National supports being delivered locally include information regarding loans available from Microfinance Ireland, who have reduced the lending rate by 1% for all new lending from 1st July 2016. Mr McEnteggart also encouraged small business to develop their digital presence to avoid missing significant commercial opportunities. In order to support this goal, Monaghan LEO aim to get additional businesses trading online by the end of 2016. To this end, Monaghan LEO has been allocated 20 Trading Online Vouchers by the Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment. The Online Trading Voucher Scheme offers small businesses the opportunity to develop their website or digital marketing strategy by availing of vouchers of up to €2,500 or 50% of eligible expenditure (net of VAT).

In addition to these supports LEO Monaghan also assist small business in meeting the challenges of the business world by providing a wide range of training supports which are tailored to meet specific business requirements. LEO Monaghan offers an Autumn schedule of courses which include a broad range of one day workshops, seminars, evening courses and more comprehensive management development programmes.

All trainings are heavily subsidised by the LEO. The trainings are designed to adequately support the needs of Monaghan business whether it is a business idea, start up or developing business.
