Meet the Buyer - 2019

New Meet the Buyer Event Showcases Emerging Food producers from Monaghan

Micro businesses, Rucksnacks and Old Carrick Mill confidently represented County Monaghan at the inaugural Local Enterprise 'Meet the Buyer' food event, which took place on 23rd May on 'The Street' at Limerick Institute of Technology (LIT).

The event featured up and coming buyers from all over the country, buyers from Ireland and a significant number of buyers from the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland. The majority of supermarket groups, including Aldi, Lidl, Tesco, Musgrave Group, Barlett Mitchell, Barry Group, Co-Op, Cotswold Fayre, Simply Fresh and Thornton Budgens, attended the event. Ran by the Local Enterprise office Network, this event, provided SME's with a great opportunity to gain new distribution for their products and to get expert advise on how to succeed.

Meet The Buyer - Old Carrick Mill

County Monaghan put it's best foot forward with top quality products created locally; Rucksnacks are a range of beef jerky snacks made from grass fed Irish beef by the Connolly family in Clones; based in Carrickmacross, Old Carrick Mill, distills gin and whiskey using the finest local ingredients.

The event which was trade only, was open to buyers from across the food industry such as supermarket groups, wholesalers, retailers, independent fine food shops, food service, development chefs, restaurants and more. They were invited to sample a huge range of the finest new Irish produce from up to 90 producers and meet the passionate, talented artisans behind it.

Eilín Connolly, of Local Enterprise Office Monaghan, says, "Food producers in Monaghan are producing a range of quality food products and with the support of the Local Enterprise Office through financial assistance, training, development and networking opportunities are achieving fantastic success in developing their markets. The meet the buyer event will assist these producers to develop new markets and outlets for their produce and enable them to benchmark their products against the best from all over Ireland. I expect this event to grow in the coming years and to become a key annual event for not only producers but for buyers also."

Meet The Buyer - Rucksnacks

Colm Connolly, promoter of Rucksnacks, stated after the event, "I found the 'Meet the Buyer' event to be very well -organised with great communication upfront and with informative talks during the day. The relaxed atmosphere meant I could engage in long conversations with the right buyers for our brand and other food businesses. Overall, this will be a hugely positive event for our business as we move forward. I would like to especially thank my Local Enterprise Office, who provided excellent support before and during the event to help maximise the impact it had on us as a growing local business".

Helen Lyond of the Quality Food Awards (IQFAs) added, "We were delighted to partner with the Local Enterprise Offices around the country for this event. It is particularly exciting to showcase the brightest talent and newest produce coming out of the country. In the seven years that we have been conducting the IQFAs, we have been hugely impressed by the increasing quality of Irish produce, which is now amongst the best in the world. We all want to know where our food is coming from and to be reassured that it is made with integrity, clean, local ingredients and with care. Irish producers really understand this."
