GDPR workshop 2 Data Protection Impact Assessment - DPIA - May 2018

Participant Profile

Participants would need to have attended our previous “Fundamentals in the GDPR” training or equivalent. Ideally, the participant would have completed the “Risk assessments in preparation for the GDPR”.

By May 2018, Data Protection Impact Assessments will be mandatory under the new EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in any circumstance where a project proposal introduces risk to the rights and freedoms of data subjects. It is essentially a risk assessment of proposed processing of personal data. Possible examples of when this may be required for an organisation, would be in considering the use of new technologies, selecting a new 3rd Party processor, moving to a new market, or introducing a new data processing activity.

Course Outline & Anticipated Practical Outcomes

This course outlines when a Data Protection Impact Assessment is required, outlines how to develop and implement a DPIA, monitor outcomes and take corrective action if needed. It will teach organisations how to identify and resolve issues early, reduce costs and potentially mitigate reputational damage.

Outline topics include;

  • When DPIAs are required
  • The DPIA process - Conducting a DPIA
  • Analysis of DPIA tools
  • Risk-based approach
  • Monitoring outcomes

With only 12 participants, there will be a practical workshop element to this course.

Course length
3 hours

Note, this is workshop #2 in a series of GDPR specific workshops. It is recommended to complete them in logical sequence (where possible) to maximise learning.
