The aim of this workshop is to create an awareness of the implications and effects to your business of the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulations) legislation being enforced from 25th May 2018.


Workshop Objectives:

By the end of this workshop participants will:

  • Understand their obligations under existing data protection legislation as an SME owner/manager
  • Understand the key changes brought about by the GDPR
  • Be aware of the legal principles of the EU GDPR legislation
  • Be aware of the policies, principles and systems to implement to become compliant with GDPR
  • Understand how to commence a roadmap to GDPR compliance and be aware of resources and tools available for same
  • Have a template to undertake a Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) on their business
  • Have identified specific areas/content for follow up mentoring, available through LEO Offaly Business Advisor/Mentoring service

The half-day workshop covers:

  • Privacy, human rights and the ‘right to be forgotten’
  • The legal principles of the EU GDPR legislation
  • Key GDPR definitions and relevant articles
  • Risk based approach to being GDPR compliant
  • Obtaining consent (customer AND employee data)
  • Data subject rights and subject access requests (including employment law implications)
  • Storage and retention of personal data
  • Impacts of GPDR on Data Controllers and Data Processors
  • Data breaches and reporting obligations and sanctions and fines for same
