Basic Book-keeping, Nenagh

The aim of this course is to provide participants with the skills to do their own bookkeeping, to prepare VAT returns, PAYE and PRSI, wages and to gain a working knowledge of the Irish tax system as well as to calculate income tax, PRSI and USC for the self-employed.

The programme is delivered over four three hour sessions and there will be a number of practical exercises that participants will undertake in order to derive maximum benefit from the course.

Course content will include:

• Revenue's definition of a business expense
• Setting up a creditor's ledger
• Setting up a debtor's ledger
• Introduction to VAT
• Different VAT rates
• Preparation of books, records and completion of Government forms- purchase book, cash book, sales book, VAT return, cheques journal
• The true cost of employing people
• Detailed explanation of Government forms relating to employment, ie Form 12A, PRSI contribution rates, PAYE/PRSI return, P30, Holiday Pay entitlements and minimum pay rates.
