The Granary Cafe - Coming Out of Covid

The Granary is a busy popular café situated in O’ Connell Street, Waterford.

The ethos of the café, under the helm of Peter Fowler, has always been as a champion of good quality local produce, in a warm convivial and bustling setting.

The award-winning café has built up a respected reputation among its loyal local clientele and tourists visiting the city.  The café also provides a catering service and has built up a strong base of corporate clients, which the Granary caters to off-site.

Good food, local produce, served in a warm and inviting atmosphere has been the ethos of the Granary since it was established in 2005.

With the advent of COVID-19 and following Governments guidelines the Café shut its doors on March 16th, which put paid to a scheduled anniversary celebration on March 27th with a WLRfm OB, interviews and live music to celebrate 15 years in business.

However, on May 21st the Granary reopened for takeout service and full service resumed on June 29th.

In order to assure the safety of his customers and staff, Peter introduced stringent health and safety measures:

  • Hand sanitisation upon entering the café
  • Removal of display cabinets to increase space and facilitate customer flow
  • Separate entrance and exit points
  • Perspex guards at point of sale / service
  • Staff wear facemasks
  • Social distancing signage prominently displayed throughout the cafe
  • Increased frequency of cleaning and disinfecting in all public and kitchen/serving areas
