Online Start Your Own Business Course

The course will provide individuals with the skills; management tools and expertise to start their own business

The programme will guide participants through the various aspects of starting and running a business and assist them in assessing the viability of their business idea.

Course Content

  • Assess the financial and marketing viability of the business
  • Explore their suitability to, and the challenges surrounding, self-employment
  • Develop a Business Plan for the business
  • Explore the various sources of finance, how to secure appropriate finance and build banking relationships
  • Gain an understanding of the legislative and statutory frameworks relevant to businesses in Ireland
  • Identify the relevant government agencies and the reporting obligations that these impose on business from an operational, financial, employment, tax and company law perspective
  • Supports available to businesses from government and other agencies, including the remit and role of the LEO
  • Gain an understanding of how to keep a basic set of books
  • Know how to manage their cash and working capital
  • Develop credit management techniques for their business
  • Understand taxation obligations for businesses – types of taxation, their purpose, registration, using ROS, self-assessment, filing requirements, returns etc.
  • Marketing their business using cost-effective multi-media marketing tools including the use of Social Media
  • Use IT to systemise, automate and market their business
  • Sales – developing a customer focus, integration with marketing effort, Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tools and techniques

Course Delivery

The programme comprises eight morning sessions delivered over Zoom. You will need a PC/laptop/smart phone or tablet to participate. When you register you will be sent a link to allow you join the virtual classroom. The programme will be fully interactive and participants will be encouraged to ask questions and share their experiences.
