STUDIO MEALA WINS TOP COUNTY ROSCOMMON ENTERPRISE AWARD

ANNOUNCEMENT MADE DURING LOCAL ENTERPRISE WEEK 2022

An animation studio from Boyle is this year’s winner of the County Roscommon Enterprise Award for 2022, Local Enterprise Office Roscommon has announced. Studio Meala took the top prize of €3000 and will now represent Local Enterprise Office Roscommon at the 22nd National Enterprise Awards at the Mansion House in Dublin on the 2nd June.

Studio Meala is an award-winning animation studio, based in Boyle, which was launched in 2019 by Stephen Fagan, Jerry Twomey and Sean Cunningham. Since then Studio Meala has grown rapidly to provide animation production services for many leading international studios, broadcasters and streaming platforms as well as having a number of its’ own animation series in development.

 Other winners at the County Roscommon Enterprise Awards held at the Abbey Hotel Roscommon included Special Merit Awards for Innovation and Resilience to;

  • Rita Oates, an artist based in Roscommon town who designs her own brand of greeting cards. fine art prints and scarves.

  • Lark Bridal who as well as designing their own range of Bridesmaid and partywear, also distribute the world’s leading bridalwear brands to a global market from their base in Monksland, Athlone, co. Roscommon.

Studio Meala will now be competing against 30 other finalists from every local authority area for a share of the €35,000 winners prize fund as national judging gets underway in May. Categories this year include ‘Best Export Business,’ ‘Best Start-Up’ and ‘Innovation,’ in addition to eight regional awards. There are also two new National Enterprise Awards this year with a “One to Watch” award and a “Sustainability / Green” award.

Companies from Roscommon have enjoyed success in the National Enterprise Awards in the past, with Lidan Designs from Roscommon town clinching the National Enterprise Future Focus Award in 2021.

The Roscommon County Enterprise Awards took place as part of a very successful Local Enterprise Week programme of events. There were over 220 physical and virtual events taking place across the country, run by the 31 Local Enterprise Offices from March 7th to 11th.

Speaking during Local Enterprise Week Louise Ward, Head of Enterprise at Local Enterprise Office Roscommon said: “Celebrating local businesses that are highly effective and successful is particularly relevant this year with all the challenges of the Pandemic and the uncertain business environment”.

Speaking at the Awards Ceremony. Chief Executive of Roscommon County Council said: “I am delighted that, despite operating in a difficult business environment for the last two years, the level of entrepreneurship in Roscommon has never been higher. The businesses honoured at the County Enterprise Awards epitomise the qualities of innovation, resilience, creativity and ambition that are necessary to create employment and wealth for our communities across the county”.

Local Enterprise Week is organised every year by the Local Enterprise Offices and supported by Enterprise Ireland, local authorities and the Government of Ireland.
