Unique Irish Handcrafted Festive Gifts

College Green on Dublin’s Dame Street will transform into the two day ‘Designer Dublin’ Christmas Market on Friday December 12th and Saturday December 13th  2014. Over thirty designers and craftspeople, all based in the capital, will be showcasing their work at the two day fair in the historical surroundings of the Bank of Ireland forecourt on College Green. A brass band will play Christmas songs on each day and Santa Claus will make an appearance on Saturday afternoon!

An initiative of  LEO Dublin City,  Plato Dublin and Bank of Ireland, the organisers of the festive fair are encouraging the public to buy Irish-handcrafted gifts for Christmas this year. The ‘Designer Dublin Christmas Market’ will be showcasing the best design and gift ideas, on display and for sale, promising that Irish-made fashion, jewellery, art, furniture, ceramics, craft and artisan food produce will all be on the festive menu. Visitors to the Christmas Market will be spoiled for choice, with a wide range of gift ideas available, for all age groups and budgets. Several well known Dublin-based craft workers will be taking part, each with their unique ranges available.

Visitors to the Designer Dublin Christmas Market will be able to meet the craftsperson or designer in College Green and speak to them about their work and latest collections. The free Designer Dublin event attracted hundreds of visitors last Christmas and doors are opening from 10am to 5pm on Friday December 12th and  10am to 6pm on Saturday December 13th, two of the busiest shopping days of the year. Visitors to this year’s market can expect to meet Jacinta Curley, Out of the Ordinary (Pen portraits, paintings, flat pack models ), Adrienne Crowe from Seraph (pottery), Aidan Smyth (jewellery), Sarah McGahon (hats), Matthew Croker from Mecy Design (furniture) and Emmet Kelly from Ecofun (Wooden Toys).

The Local Enterprise Office Dublin City initiated the ‘Designer Dublin’ Christmas Market, and is encouraging the public to get behind Ireland’s craft sector  and economy by choosing locally-handcrafted gifts for Christmas.

“With a wide range of Irish-made gift ideas to suit all tastes and budgets on offer, we’re expecting this to be the biggest Designer Dublin Christmas Market yet,” Greg Swift, Head of Enterprise Local Enterprise Office says.

The ‘Designer Dublin’ Christmas Market opens for two days, from 10am to 5pm on Friday 12th and 10am to 6pm on  Saturday 13th December, at the forecourt at Bank of Ireland in College Green, with free admission.
