Primary Schools Enterprise Programme

Bí Gnóthach is an educational programme that introduces 5th and 6th class students to the many aspects of setting up and running a business while becoming familiar with the world of work. Working in teams, the students will bring their businesses from the earliest idea stage to product development, production and right through to the point of making sales and generating profits.

Since 2005, over 11,000 South Dublin Primary School Students have been directly introduced to Enterprise Education through the Bí Gnóthach programme. By following the course outlines, students will gain an understanding of the vital aspects of successful enterprise, namely;

  • What Makes a Business Succeed
  • Idea Generation and Selection
  • Market Research
  • Record Keeping
  • Finance – Raising it & Managing it
  • Production
  • Marketing
  • Global Enterprise
  • The World of Work

Students will keep a detailed Enterprise Diary throughout the course of the year, and these will be submitted to the South Dublin Local Enterprise Office. The Best entries will be selected to present their materials at the Enterprise Showcase where the winners of the categories are announced. The categories include;

  • Overall Enterprising School of the Year

The Local Enterprise Office is dedicated to nurturing youth enterprise throughout the county, and to showcasing the entrepreneurial spirit that exists in our schools, inside and outside the county. We are the first stop shop for enterprise in South Dublin, be that the world of work or the world of education. By making students aware of what it takes to make a business, we aim to inspire the next generation of brave Irish entrepreneurs.
