A Layman's Guide to VAT

This course will provide a detailed understanding of VAT and the implications of VAT registration on your business. It will teach participants important areas such as, VAT expenses, VAT rates, VAT thresholds, important Revenue dates and deadlines, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of registering for VAT.

Course Content: 

  • Registering for VAT – Why? When? The registration process 
  • Allowable VAT expenses
  • The books and records that must be kept and for how long
  • VAT Thresholds and Rates
  • VAT Reverse Charge – Construction Industry 
  • VAT on EU transactions
  • VAT Post-Brexit (Imports & Exports)
  • VAT calculations
  • The VAT returns – VAT 3 and RTD
  • ROS Demo on submitting a VAT 3 Return

Delivery Method:

Clear demonstrations by the trainer using Power Point slides and Excel for calculations.

A user-friendly case-study will be used as the training tool and the trainer will guide participants through all the course material in a jargon-free, user-friendly, open manner, allowing them to ask questions on the subject at any stage as this fosters an environment where participants feel comfortable and confident to ask specific questions and get the best out of the session as possible.

All participants will be given a full set of detailed notes/ class slides at the beginning of the course – emailed to them.
