This practical Programme supports managers to create inclusive, high-performing workplaces while meeting their responsibilities under Irish employment law.
Course Overview
The programme develops inclusive leadership capabilities, confidence in managing diverse teams and a clear understanding of Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) expectations. Participants will explore disability inclusion, reasonable accommodation and practical strategies to reduce legal and organisational risk. Through interactive workshops and personalised mentoring, managers will learn how to move beyond compliance and create workplaces where employees feel valued, supported and able to contribute fully.
Course Content
Delivered over three interactive sessions, the programme combines practical learning with real-world application.
Session 1: The Modern Workplace & Legal Responsibilities
- Evolution from traditional management to inclusive workplaces
- Overview of Irish employment legislation and the role of the WRC
- The nine protected grounds under the Employment Equality Acts
- Understanding employer obligations, workplace risk and complaints
- Creating psychologically safe and inclusive team environments
Session 2: Disability Inclusion & Managing Diverse Needs
- Understanding disability through medical and social models
- Supporting employees with visible and non-visible disabilities
- Neurodiversity, mental health and long-term health conditions
- Reasonable accommodation: legal requirements and practical solutions
- Learning from recent WRC cases and avoiding common pitfalls
- Managing sensitive conversations and supporting wellbeing
Session 3: Embedding Inclusion & Ensuring Compliance
- Moving from reactive compliance to proactive inclusion
- Applying Universal Design principles in workplace practices
- Inclusive approaches to recruitment, onboarding and performance management
- Identifying and removing barriers within policies and procedures
- The importance of documentation and consistency in decision-making
- Building systems that stand up to WRC scrutiny
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the programme, participants will be able to:
- Understand their legal obligations as employers and managers, including key WRC considerations
- Apply the principles of the Employment Equality Acts in everyday management decisions
- Confidently support employees with disabilities, long-term conditions and diverse needs
- Implement reasonable accommodations fairly and consistently
- Recognise and reduce the risk of workplace disputes, complaints and WRC claims
- Communicate effectively and manage sensitive situations with professionalism
- Demonstrate inclusive leadership behaviours that support engagement, wellbeing and retention
- Maintain appropriate documentation and decision-making processes to demonstrate compliance
- Develop a practical action plan to strengthen inclusion within their organisation
Programme Delivery: Three interactive workshops supported by personalised mentoring, practical examples and workplace-focused action planning. This ensures participants can immediately apply learning within their own organisation while building a culture of inclusion, compliance and positive employee engagement.
