Waldrons Meats take Gold!

Waldrons Meats, based in Brideswell, Co. Roscommon have brought home the bacon yet again, this time taking Gold for their Home Cured Irish Back Rashers at the Great Taste awards. Judged by over 400 of the most demanding food critics, food writers, farmers and more, Great Taste is widely acknowledged as one of the most respected food accreditation schemes for artisan and speciality food producers in Ireland.

No strangers to winning awards, the Bord Bia approved Waldrons, is a family owned business providing 16 jobs in its production facility; they have been in business for the last 24 years. Michael and Yvonne Waldron, their sons Cathal and Darragh and the whole team work consistently hard to produce the finest pork products and to develop their businesses potential. Delighted with the win, Michael Waldon explains “when a product wears a Great Taste label it carries a badge of honour but more importantly, the Great Taste logo is a mark of wonderful tasting product. We are delighted to be part of this elite group in 2014. As we always say, our slogan is our promise to our customers – Waldrons is The Home of Good Taste.” Unlike other awards, Great Taste is simply all about the taste. Judges blind taste the food, not knowing who or where it has came from. As they taste, they confer and re-taste before making the decision on whether a product should be a winner. For Waldrons, the judges’ comments were extremely positive - their Home Cured Irish Back Rashers were awarded gold for being “meaty, succulent, good thick sized rashers, and not too salty.” Everything one could ask from a rasher!

Waldrons are expanding their horizons all the time and are now a national supplier. They were recently selected to be part of the Tesco Bord Bia Supplier Development Programme which will focus the business on expansion at home and in export markets. Always keen to share their good fortune with their loyal fans and customers, the Waldrons are running a series of competitions on their facebook page - facebook.com/waldronmeatsireland over the next three weeks with breakfast hampers galore up for grabs.
