Are you interested in setting up a business?

The objective of Start Your Own Business programmes is to assist delegates in assessing the viability of business ideas and in understanding the essential elements required to start-up and run their own business. Delegates will be able assess the viability of business ideas and understand essential elements needed to bring an enterprise from to concept to profit. At the end of the programme delegates will understand the essential elements required to start up and run their own businesses effectively and will have the skills and knowledge to be able to create their own business plan and be aware of the various supports that exist. Delegates on this course will have a competent understanding of the taxation system and will understand what needs to be done to be compliant with revenue regulations and will be able to understand the duties of their accountant.

Topics Include:

• Starting Your Own Business - what's involved, who to contact, registrations required and what it really means to work for yourself
• Business Planning - how to test your idea, carry out basic market research and prepare a business plan that works
• Marketing and Sales - understanding your customer, pricing, promotion and getting your first sales
• Tax, VAT and Insurance - registering with Revenue, choosing a legal structure, VAT implications and understanding key obligations
• Finance and Funding - how to cost your business, manage cash flow and access start up supports
• Employing People - employer responsibilities, contracts and basic payroll 

By the end of the course you will understand the practical steps needed to start a business and will have the confidence to move forward.
