This programme is a practical export readiness programme designed specifically for small and medium-sized craft businesses that want to develop opportunities in the UK market. Based on the programme framework and export readiness objectives developed for Monaghan craft enterprises, participants will gain the skills, confidence and contacts needed to take their first steps towards international growth.

The programme combines expert-led workshops, one-to-one mentoring, peer networking and a market visit to Manchester’s renowned Great Northern Contemporary Craft Fair.

Participants will learn from experienced export specialists, engage with industry stakeholders and develop practical plans to help grow their business in new markets.

Programme content

Over seven in-person interactive sessions, participants will explore:

  • Business Planning & Export Strategy – developing a clear vision, growth plan and export roadmap.
  • Sales & Market Development – understanding customer needs, value propositions, sales pipelines and international selling.
  • Marketing for Craft Businesses – branding, communications, pitching and presenting your business to new audiences.
  • Pricing & Financial Planning – pricing for profit, margins, cashflow and preparing for UK markets.
  • Export Logistics & Distribution – understanding shipping, customs, distribution channels and market entry considerations.
  • Manchester Market Preparation – setting objectives, preparing marketing materials and maximising networking opportunities.
  • Post-Visit Review & Action Planning – turning learning into action with clear growth objectives and next steps.

Educational & Networking Visit

A key element of the programme is a visit to the Great Northern Contemporary Craft Fair in Manchester, providing participants with an opportunity to immerse themselves in the UK craft sector, meet exhibitors, connect with industry organisations and build valuable commercial relationships.

Pre-arranged meetings and networking opportunities will help businesses gain first-hand market insights and explore future routes to market.
