A technology business from Swinford is this year’s winner of the Mayo Enterprise Award for 2022, Local Enterprise Office Mayo has announced.

Cubbie took the top prize of €2,500 and will now represent Local Enterprise Office Mayo at the 22nd National Enterprise Awards at the Mansion House in Dublin on the 2nd June.

The business manufactures the Cubbie Sensory Management System - a safe, comfortable and adaptable environment for people with a disability or special needs. Combining hardware and software technologies, the Cubbie is tailored to manage the needs of each individual user.

Cubbie will now be competing against 30 other finalists from every local authority area for a share of the €35,000 winner’s prize fund as national judging gets underway in May.  Categories this year include ‘Best Export Business,’ ‘Best Start-Up’ and ‘Innovation,’ in addition to eight regional awards.  There are also two new National Enterprise Awards this year with a “One to Watch” award and a “Sustainability / Green” award.

Previous Mayo winners of the National Enterprise Awards have included AgriSpread (in 2011), Big Red Barn (in 2016) and Monaghan Bros Bar Furniture (in 2017).

The Mayo Enterprise Award announcement took place as part of a very successful Local Enterprise Week programme of events.  There were over 220 physical and virtual events taking place across the country, run by the 31 Local Enterprise Offices from March 7th to 11th.

Speaking during Local Enterprise Week John Magee, Head of Enterprise with Local Enterprise Office Mayo said: “Cubbie is a very deserving winner of this year’s Mayo Enterprise Award and the team in Local Enterprise Office Mayo are very proud of their achievements. We wish them every success as they continue to grow their world class business from County Mayo.”

Other high-profile events that took place during the week included online workshops on Starting Your Own Business, Preparing Your Business for Customs, and Understanding Financials for Business Planning.  An information session on the Trading Online Voucher Scheme, and an in-person networking breakfast which looked at how businesses can lower operating costs by adopting renewable energy technologies and driving efficiencies in business.

Local Enterprise Week is organised every year by the Local Enterprise Offices and supported by Enterprise Ireland, local authorities and the Government of Ireland.
