Could You Be Mayo’s Best Young Entrepreneur? Local Enterprise Office Mayo Launches County Level Competition with Prize fund of €50,000

Mayo's Best Young EntrepreneurThe Local Enterprise Office Mayo has launched a new competition to find Mayo’s Best Young Entrepreneur. The competition is open to individuals aged between 18 and 30 and will be judged under three categories:

  • Best New Idea,
  • Best Start-up Business, and
  • Best Established Business with New Add-On.

Speaking at the Mayo Launch of the competition, Joanne Grehan, CEO of  LEO Mayo said; "If you are aged between 18 and 30 with an outstanding idea or existing business then you should enter this competition.  Almost any young person with a business idea can enter. It doesn’t matter what your background is.  Maybe you have been to university and researched a business idea, maybe you have always wanted to be your own boss, maybe you are an existing young entrepreneur, maybe you have an idea to improve your existing business or maybe you want to return home and set up your business in Mayo?"

There is a prize fund of €50,000 to be won at County Level. The Best New Idea category has a prize fund of up to €10,000, while the other two categories of Best Start-Up Business and Best Established Business with new add-on each have a prize fund of up to €20,000. Selected businesses will also benefit from business boot camps and mentoring programmes. County winners will then compete at national level for the overall title and an investment of up to €50,000.

Grehan is committed to finding the best entrepreneurs to represent Mayo in the National competition; “There is a very simple form to be completed to enter the competition. Closing date for the submission of entry forms is the 31st of July 2014.
