Training Programme Aim:

This training programme that will help participants to understand the fundamentals in preparing and submitting annual returns and tax returns. It will address the basic tax issues that arise for individuals operating as a sole trader or a company. It will also address the issue of self-assessment and submitting returns, reading accounts and assessing the financial health of your business. 

This is a 4 week programme that will take place at 7:00pm - 9:30pm on the following dates:

  • 13th April
  • 20th April 
  • 27th April
  • 4th May

The programme also aims to ensure participants gain all the information they need on any key agencies involved, the processes involved in dealing with such agencies and the steps they should be taking to ensure that they are managing their businesses in a legal manner.

  • Role of the business owner
  • Setting up an appropriate book keeping system
  • Overview of basic books of account – sales, purchases, cheques, receipts
  • Understanding financial statements – profit and loss, balance sheet and cashflow
  • Registering for tax and records to be kept
  • Using ROS and CORE to file online returns
  • Preparing VAT and PAYE returns
  • Budgeting – understanding the budget setting process and setting sales targets
  • Introduction to break even analysis
  • Margin V mark up
  • Pricing for profit
  • Cost Management
  • Cashflow management
  • Sources of Finance
  • Revenue Audits


On completion of the course the participants will:

  • Have an understanding of their financial statements
  • Be able to set up a basic book-keeping system for their business
  • Understand what returns they need to submit for their business
  • Understand how to manage cash flow and costs
  • Prepare a basic budget for their business

This training is being delivered by Tracey Glacken.


Tracey Glacken is a Certified Public Accountant and has worked in practice for the past 23 years. She works with SME’s from all trades and professions in the areas of audit, financial statements preparation, taxation, business planning and company secretarial.


As part of Tracey’s work she is very familiar with the issues faced by small business owners as they strive to develop their business.
