Mayo businesses are being urged to put themselves forward for the 2026 Mayo Business Awards, with organisers stressing that you don’t have to be a large company, major employer or long-established business to make an impact.

Entries for the Mayo Business Awards are now open, with businesses across the county being encouraged to take the opportunity to showcase their achievements, tell their story and gain recognition for the contribution they make to Mayo’s economy and communities.

The awards recognise excellence across a wide range of sectors and business types, from emerging enterprises and family businesses to established companies, retailers, hospitality businesses, professional services and innovative enterprises.

John Magee, Head of Enterprise at Local Enterprise Office Mayo, said the awards provide an important opportunity to recognise the breadth and quality of businesses operating across the county.

“Mayo has an incredibly diverse business community, with ambitious entrepreneurs and businesses of all sizes making a significant contribution to the county. Often, the businesses that are quietly getting on with building something successful don’t necessarily see themselves as award winners. These awards are a chance to change that. Whether you are a small family business, an ambitious start-up or an established company that has continued to grow and adapt, your achievements are worth celebrating."

“Entering an award also gives businesses an opportunity to take a step back and reflect on what they have achieved, the challenges they have overcome and the plans they have for the future. I would encourage businesses across Mayo to put themselves forward and tell their story.”

The judging process will consider the individual strengths and achievements of each business, with entrants encouraged to demonstrate what makes their business stand out in their category.

Importantly, businesses entering the awards may also be considered by the judging panel for other categories where their achievements or business model make them a strong contender.

This means businesses should not be concerned if they feel their achievements extend beyond the category they have entered. The judging panel will assess each entry on its merits and may identify businesses for recognition in another category where appropriate.

The Mayo Business Awards are being coordinated by the Chambers of Commerce across Mayo, with support from Local Enterprise Office Mayo, and will culminate in a gala awards event at the Erris Coast Hotel on November 6th.

With entries closing on September 25th, businesses are encouraged not to leave their application until the last minute.

For many businesses, entering an award can also be an opportunity to raise their profile, recognise their team and highlight the work taking place behind the scenes.

The Mayo Business Awards aim to shine a light on that work and celebrate the businesses contributing to the economic and social fabric of communities throughout the county.
