Success for CBS Charleville at Christmas Trade Showcase in Millstreet

Students from CBS Charleville Scoop Top Awards at Christmas Entrepreneurial Showcase in Millstreet

Students from Charleville CBS walked away with the top prizes of Best Overall Company at the North Cork Local Enterprise Office Christmas Trade Fair in Millstreet last Tuesday 15th December.

 400 students from second level schools all over North Cork took part in the event, which took place at the Green Glens Arena in Millstreet.

 A total of 50 mini-companies from second level schools all over Cork from 1st Year and Transition Years set up and put on display products they have produced as part of the Student Enterprise Awards Programme.

 The first of the winning teams in the Senior Category (Transition Year students) is called Chit Chat from CBS in Charleville. This team have developed an online resource for second level schools whereby Transition Year students help incoming 1st year students with a variety of issues relating to settling into a new school.

 The second overall best team in the senior category is called Box of Dreams, also from CBS in Charleville. The product is an innovative means of helping young children verbalise their emotions to their parents by using a variety of visual aids.

 In the junior category, The Genie Company from St. Mary’s School in Charleville took the top prize, with a novel range of pencil cases made from recycled denims.

  • Best Team Spirit:                              The Dressing Table, Davis College

Paddy’s Stories, St. Mary’s School, Charleville

 

 Speaking at the event, Acting Head of Local Enterprise at the North Cork Local Enterprise Office, Kevin Corrin, said ‘There is no doubt that the future looks very bright indeed for the future of entrepreneurship in Ireland looking around at the group of inspirational and business focused young people here today’.

 The next leg of the North Cork Local Enterprise Office Schools Programme Competition takes place in March 2016 – the Regional Finals. One overall company will be chosen as winner to go forward to the National Finals in Croke Park in early April 2016.
