What Is The Scheme Designed to Do?

This scheme is designed to promote the development of new businesses or expansion of existing businesses within the Arts Craft and Artisan Food sectors around the County. It does this by encouraging the occupation of vacant premises in the County. 

Grant relief for the Art/Craft Studio or Art/Craft/Artisan Food Shops Scheme is as follows:

100% of the Commercial Rates paid a premises in years one to three of trading (that is in 12 month periods of trading)

This grant will be discharged by way of an offset against commercial rates due on the premises.

Important Note

There must be no charges or rates due on the building at time of approval for grant aid. There will also be a variety of factors and conditions taking into account in assessing the application so you should carefully read the guidelines for the grant before applying. Leitrim County Council is currently open for applications for the new Arts/Craft and Artisan Foods scheme as well as for its similar existing Town Centre Incentive Scheme.

Eligibility

  • Available to qualifying occupiers in the County who self produce arts, craft or artisan foods or where arts, craft or artisan food are produced on location.
  • Applications under the Artisan Food Shops Category are restricted to retail outlets where the sale of self produce is the primary activity of the retail space.  Premises such as restaurants, cafes, pubs etc are not eligible under this scheme.
  • The floorspace of the studio or shop should be less than 60m2.  Where the occupied premises has a larger floorplate, consideration will be given to inclusion of a portion of the premises under this scheme.

Town Centre Business Incentive Scheme

This scheme is for premises vacant for a period exceeding 3 months. The grant will operate on a sliding scale over 3 years as follows:

  • Year 1 - 75% of the annual rates paid in year 1 of trading.
  • Year 2 - 50% of the annual rates paid in year 2 of trading.
  • Year 3 - 25% of the annual rates paid in year 3 of trading.

There must be no charges or rates due on the building at time of approval for grant aid and there will be a variety of factors and conditions taking into account in assessing the application. Leitrim County Council is currently open for applications for the new Arts/Craft and Artisan Foods scheme as well as for its existing Town Centre Incentive Scheme. Eligibility

  • Available to newly established business.
  • An existing business relocating or expanding from outside the county
  • An existing business maintaining current location and expanding into new location
  • Other exceptional circumstances may be deemed eligible subject to information submitted
