Offaly County Council erects new signage at Portarlington Industrial Estate, Botley Lane, Portarlington

Offaly County Council recently erected new signs at Portarlington Industrial Estate, Botley Lane, Portarlington. Speaking at the launch Councillor Eddie Fitzpatrick, Cathaoirleach of Offaly Council, said he was delighted to see the new signs erected and he hoped they would be a big addition the businesses in the estate and to customers and deliveries. He complimented all the businesses people who worked closely with Offaly County Council in the naming and design of the new signs. He said directional signs will also be erected on the Tullamore and Edenderry approach roads to Portarlington. He thanked Orla Martin Head, Head of Enterprise and James Hogan, Senior Enterprise Development Officer in the Council for arranging the erection of the signs.  

On behalf of the businesses in the industrial estate Ms. Alison Ritchie, Polarice Ltd., said it was great to have seen Offaly Local Enterprise Office and the Council take on board the views of the businesses in Portarlington and the Offaly Economic Forum, to develop a strategy with simple, practical and affordable steps to improve Portarlington Industrial Estate.  She said the new signage is a very welcome start and they looked forward to further developments and improvements throughout 2017 and 2018.

Ms. Orla Martin, Head of Enterprise said that she was very pleased to see the new signage in place. She said that over the years and through her work in the Local Enterprise Office and County Enterprise Board, she had always been impressed with the great businesses based here in Botley Lane. She said it is a thriving hub of enterprise activity in Offaly. Our involvement in this project, she said, comes as a result of our expanded role. Since becoming part of Offaly County Council, the role of The Local Enterprise Office (LEO) includes economic development. Therefore, LEO Offaly is working with business groups to promote business parks and towns, clusters of businesses and drive economic development.

She said the key messages she would like to leave with the businesses were:

  • The Local Enterprise Office is here to help –all businesses looking to set up and grow. We can meet business owners in Portarlington or in offices in Edenderry and Tullamore

  • LEO Offaly has a property database, where anyone can promote for free any vacant business premises

  • Staff are open to ideas and willing to sit down with business groups to promote economic development

She concluded by thanking all the businesses who worked with the Council on the project.
