Note:  This course is conveniently scheduled for evenings so it is suitable for people working during the day.

This SYOB programme is designed to equip aspiring entrepreneurs with the essential skills, management tools, and expertise needed to make informed decisions, plan strategically, and organise their business operations effectively. Participants will gain valuable insights into what it takes to successfully launch and sustain a new venture, ensuring it runs smoothly and efficiently.

Session 1:

  • Introduction to Starting your own Business
  • What does self-employment entails – analysing your skills
  • Setting goals and objectives
  • Researching your idea – is your idea tangible or intangible
  • Preparing an elevator pitch – selling yourself & your business
  • Exploring the market locally, nationally, and internationally

Session 2:

  • Legal trading structures for businesses / organisations
  • How to register a business name/company name with the CRO
  • Choosing the correct operating structure of a business – which one is right for me?
  • Registering with Revenue
  • How the self-employed/company taxation system works
  • VAT in Ireland
  • Understanding and managing business risks

Session 3:

  • Applying the principles of market research, self-marketing, and understanding the marketing mix are essential steps in developing a successful business idea
  • Apply the following to your business idea – how to do market research, market yourself, and your business
  • Comprehend the marketing mix. What marketing ideas will you use?
  • Introduction to business planning using the BMC aligned with the Enterprise Ireland tendering material

Session 4: 

  •  The psychology of pricing, sales & selling Pricing your product / service correctly
  • Break even or make a profit?
  • Understanding the correlation (connection) between market , sales & customer service
  • Selling yourself first!
  • The psychology of the buying process – customers behaviours
  • Consciousness of the sales cycle
  • Overcoming sales objections
  • AI how to use in your business and guidelines

Session 5:

  • Financial management for small business – understanding the basics
  • Yearly returns
  • Cashflow forecasting – staying afloat in the startup stages
  • Whether or not to use a bookkeeper or an accountant or go it alone
  • Sources of funding and other Irish supports
  • Introduction to AI

Session 6:

  • Customer service – define customer service
  • GUEST and the six pillars of customer service
  • Excellent customer service results in repeat business
  • Dealing with complaints (LEARN model)
  • Understanding the legal aspect of customer service
  • Incorporating customer service into your business for profit
